Great Smoky Mountains Railroad experiences derailment
Was there a busload of fugitives involved this time?
Does this railroad by any chance go into Tennessee at all? I was in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Pidgeon Forge, Tennesse this past summer and I think those two places would be just great for a tourist train.
Been There done that out of Steam Town near Delaware Water Gap!
If the derailment was WEST of Bryson City, and the trains are only operating EAST to Dillsboro, there is a directional problem with the story. Dillsboro is on the line toward Asheville (east) and Nantahala Gorge (with no current service) is on the line to Andrews and Murphy (west). So what happened??
It does not go into Tennessee, but they do run a narrow gauge 2-8-2 up into the hills at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, which is well worth riding behind and seeing.
Railfest 2012 has been going on all weekend and I’m riding the excursion to Nantahala in the morning. I hope all is well!
