Just got a postcard announcing the GREAT TRAIN EXPO to be held at Cal Expo here in Sacramento on January 14-15. The card says that this is the first show in Sacramento–never heard of this one. Is anyone out there familiar with this show? I’m wondering if it’s just a re-hash of the GREAT AMERICAN TRAIN SHOW that I went to a couple of times (and was a real bummer, IMO). Anyway, if anyone’s ever been to one of these GREAT TRAIN EXPO’S, I’d be curious to see what their reaction was.

They have a full page ad in the Feb 06 MR and it says at the bottom they aren’t affliated with Great American Train Show among others.
I don’t have first hand knowledge of the Great Train Expo but the same company also operates the Chicago monthly train show which is usually worth the $7 to get in.
My understanding is that the Great Train Expo is the expansion of the Greenberg shows, but took over a lot of the scheduled GATS shows in many places, and that the GATS is now the Great Western and Atlantic Train Show.
Here is a link to the Great Train Expo which I’ll be attending in Indianapolis this weekend.
Hoosierdaddy–thanks for the information. It looks and sounds quite a bit different from the All American show. And since Greenberg is incorporated, it should turn out to be pretty interesting. Think I’ll go.
Again, thanks for the information.

Aggro–I went. Bought a WP reefer and a Rio Grande boxcar–almost bought a little GN brass 2-8-0, but decided against it. Was looking for the IHC 2-10-2, but by the time I got there, everyone was out of them. Pretty good show, all in all. Couldn’t spend as much time as I wanted though, I was on a tight schedule. But what’s with the SEVEN DOLLAR PARKING out there at Cal Expo? I mean, come on------!!
BTW, come to think of it, I don’t think either of us knows what the other one looks like. If I knew you by sight, I’d have hollered.

I don’t have a car, so no parking charge! But it did cost $2 for the buses there and $2 more to get back home.
The only IHC 2-10-2 I saw was from that guy selling fancy electric jigger equiped cabooses for $60 each.
Did you see that seller with a Trix Big Boy operating up on rollers? With the sound going and the rods dancing… mesmerizing. Dude tried to sell it for $700 and had a sign up there stating msrp was over $1000! My rip. You can find a new Trix BB for $650 or even less on eBay.
