Green Mountain engines are what color green?

Howdy from one of the modelers over in the model railroad forum! I’m thinking about painting an engine using the same color green as found on the Vermont’s Green Mountain railroad Geeps. The problem is…what shade of green is that? Forest Green? [^]

My second question is an opinion question. Would white lettering and stripes look just as good as the yellow ones on the Green Mountain engines? My lettering scheme and stripes are very similar.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Ahh, come on! Some one in this forum should be able to answer that question or take a wild guess! In my eyes, you guys are the experts!

Thanks,

Since I straddle the fence – play with both the 1:1 and 1:87 size trains – I can tell you, my friend, that matching colour schemes is pretty horrible! Not sure what colour of green would be best for the Green Mountain geeps, although it strikes me that forest green might be a little dark. I can tell you that it is a good bit darker than the old CV green, though.

A technique I’ve use with some success is to use my digital camera for the purpose – take a picture of the prototype, and then air brush a few greens and take a picture of them in more or less the same light. Then use your photo software (most have the option) to see which is the most exact match – or just do it by eye… (the Mark I Eyeball is pretty good!).

Me? I like the gold on green. But white on green isn’t bad, either…

You might want to try in the Model Railroader forum.
