Green Solar Glass

My tower at work is equipped with that green tinted solar glass (or it could just be REALLY dirty). But anyway, I’m building a similar building for my layout, and need some ideas on how to replicate solar glass.

Acrylic artists colors. Mix a few colors to get the shade and then use a VERY light wash. To get the dirty streaks, ad a second LIGHT wash of black.

I’ve also had success using very heavily thinned Floquil paint, applied with an airbrush. Pick, or mix, a suitable shade of green, then thin it severely, about 90% thinner. Apply a light spray on the interior surface of the “glass”: that way, from the outside, the window panes will still appear shiny. If the first spray is not dark enough for your tastes, simply respray until you’re satisfied.

You may want to try acrylic sheets. Model Railroader had an article several years ago about building high rise buildings using acrylic sheets (this method is also briefly described in the City Scenery book). I’ve seen advertising on webshites (and ebay) offering “transparent green” sheets. Perhaps this would work.

Why not use green window tint?

I picked up some green glass stain today. We’ll see how it works.
