Greenberg Great Train Expo

It’s going to be in town here in Columbus, Ohio on the weekend of the 20th-21st. I visited their website. Was going to ask the members at my club last night what they thought of it, but forgot to ask, so thought I’d post here and see what your experiences with it have been. I realize this might vary depending on the area of the country where they’re showing. Just wondered what any of you who might have attended one of their shows thought of it.

Jim

I have been to some and they are not bad.

Depends on what you are looking for. HO Scale some will be there enough to spend some good cash.

They are better than the old Greenberg Doll House Superman Thomas shows.

What are you looking for ??

I’ll be going to the WGHS in Pittsburgh the weekend of Jan 20-21, much bigger show.

I enjoy the ones in Wilmington, MA, every time. I mainly go to look at the displays, and pick up small detail things that my LHS doesn’t have and the shipping charges make outrageous on-line. The one in Massachusetts has a lot of O, S and old tinplate, but it’s still fun. I usually get a few things cheap enough to make it worth the price of admission, and even if I walk away empty-handed (as I have a few times) I still have a lot of fun.

I’m going to the Great Train Expo this weekend in Anaheim, CA. Any SoCal folks going too?

I recall a few Greenburgs in Timonium Maryland at the fairgrounds hall. I dont know if it was that specific show or not. Some shows were good and others… well… they did try.

We dont have those here in Arkansas and no more GATS either. It’s Pine Bluff at the 819 Project Shops first saturday of April each year. I had an oppertunity to go to a show in Louisville this month but am unable to travel for a variety of reasons this year.

I’ve usually enjoyed all the greenberg shows I’ve gone to. They often have a few nice layouts on display and a lot of selection of new and used stuff on sale. Granted our beloved trains have to share space with a toy or dollhouse show but then that just exposes more potential hobbyists to trains. No sense being greedy.

I’m gonna try to get there if public transportation allows me, car is acting a fool again, but going from Compton to Anaheim by bus seems like I might be pushing it

I used to attend but have since quit. The cost is too high. Admission is $7 with another $5 to park. My wife usually goes so that is $19. Add in breakfast and you’re at $35 before you even start! If I actually purchased anything it might be worth it. Too much Lionel and not enough HO. I take that money to the LHS and get something I really need.

Nowadays I wait for a couple of local shows, which are larger and better attended by HO vendors. The cost is $4 with free parking. At least I stand a chance of actually buying something.

Jim

I go to the local one (twice a year) - less than 5 miles away. They aren’t as big as the Great Scale Train Show in Timonium, but I enjoy them. They aren’t worth a long trip, but definitely a short one.

Enjoy

CurtMc:

I model HO, in Frisco road, so freq. not a lot in that road name available. Given above discussion, ? how much in HO will be there?

Jim

Each show is a little different. The ones I have been to have had about 4-5 HO dealer selling the usual stuff, not much out of the ordinary or older etc. Alot of walthers stuff for example. So finding Frisco items will not be that likely unless they happen to be newer releases of the basic products and you might have them already.

I would like to attend the show in Monroeville this month, weather permitting. Do they usually have much in G scale line there?

Timonium looks interesting as I have seen it mentioned quite a bit on the forums. Any place I can find out more about these shows? As to how often they have them and are they 1 or 2 day shows? Is Timonium far from York, Pa. I have done shows there and it would give me an idea of how far away it is from me.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

The Great Scale Train Show http://www.gsmts.com/ in Timonium is just north of Baltimore. The show has everything Z, N, HO, S, O, and G both scale and toy train. I drive up from Nothern Virginia and consider it well worth the trip for the Fall, Winter, and Spring shows. The summer show in June is smaller so I only go occaisionally to that one.

Enjoy
