We’re gonna start a new layout in Greenville,Tx We will be modeling the Greenville, Tx area. the location is in the old Katy depot downtown Greenville, on west end of Lee st. I’ll be helping with the Texas Midland R.R pasted thoung here last in 1928, bought by SP and leased to CottonBelt I think. found a picture of Railroad shops in Terrell, Tx headquarters of the Midland Route, ran from Ennis to Paris with conections to St.louis and Galveston, Tx. The Midland and CB sharred a station on east side of Greenville. The Midland ran 70 ft, 100 passenger gas-electric Motor cars from Paris to Dallas thur Greenville and Terrell, need info on these units service started in 1912. They were all-steel, electic lighed, steam heated, mahogany, and plush inside, I think they were Doodlebugs but can’t find addtional info. The Midland was the most profittabile Class II Railroad init’s heyday but info is hard to find. I have picture of 4-4-0 engine # 105, and found a 2=8-0 consolidated in a Houston park that were The Midland’s also have list and serial # of engines up to 1913. Thanks in advance
Swordsman drop me a line. I have some photos of Greenville from the 1970s and am researching SSW in and around Commerce. Espee line north out of Commerce was the old Texas Midland line to Paris.
Are you gonna put the sign across Main Street???[}:)][}:)][}:)][:-,]
I know what sign you are referring to–amazing what was once acceptable and even promoted–was that sign put up by the Greenville Chamber of Commerce? Haven’t seen a picture of that sign in awhile.
well guess if it is to be an accurate repensentation we will have to but don’t know which version to use, neither was accepted by some folks guess they had a problem.
Go to web site topozone.com map shows old road bed crossing SSW rail line just east of greenville, follow it thought ot Commerce, then on to cooper goes north from there to Paris, T.M.R.R. tracks ran north of SSW tracks from greenville to Commerce.
