ground breaking

[^o)]I read a lot of articles on this subject and i narrowed it down to two produts so I"am looking for input before i start, [so here we go ] I want to raise ground up to or close to track level, I read cork or foamcore board works and one is harder to cut at an angle to butt up against untrack roadbed, I do know i can use atlas track for transition for for yards but want to stick with unitrack, has anyone used this method or some other material, thanks

A bit more info is really needed. What is the layout base and how much (thickness) is needed to raise to track/ roadbed for scenery contours? If very little material is needed, Sculpamold, "ground Goop or plaster will work. if more height/ thickness, layers of foam cut/ shaped for a base filler.

Go to an art supply place and buy a piece of foamcore board. Give it a try. It’s cheap and easy to work with. Cut it using a sharp utility knife. If it doesn’t work for you, you’re only out a couple of dollars, and I find this stuff is very useful for other projects anyway.

The problem with foamcore board is that, if you need to apply any kind of wet treatment to it, it warps. I used foamcore board for a background structure and I ended up having to re-do it after I applied spray paint to it. I ghad to place it under a sheet of plate glass to keep it flat. In scenic applications it could possibly distort the desired effect. In adition to what has been suggested above I would also suggest cork sheeting. You can buy this material cheaply at auto parts stores; it is used to make gaskets. I have found that the rubberized gasket cork is the best, as it can be easily cut without breaking or tearing. I also use it for the roadbed on my branch line RR.

Just use beaded foam, you can get 1/4 stuff and cover it with plaster cloth, did that with a siding that I wanted to pretty much bury but remain working.
