Ground cover on a slope.

What’s the best way to lay ground cover or ballast on mountain slopes and cliff faces? I have tried a liberal coating of white glue, matte medium, or paint and then sprinkling or ‘throwing’ the cover onto the slope. Whenever I try it, most of the material rolls down the slope and ends up on the track.

Hi. There is another thread near the bottom of this page entitled: “applying ground cover to a vertical hill” that asks the identical question. Have a look at it, and I think you’ll find an answer. Remember that cliff faces have little vegetation other than stray bits that have a tenuous hold in a crack or pocket. Widespread grasses and trees are rare on anything steeper than 45-degrees or so.

Have fun, George
