The best paint to use for ground would be??? Only place Ive looked so far is Hobby Lobby (Dont sell in large enough quantities) and Sherwin-Williams ($21 a quart). Looking for best but not breaking the bank. I plan on going to Home Depot and Walmart tomorrow but wanted opinions before I made my choice.
Hi,
On my layout I went to my hardware (bunnings(I’m from Australia) and picked up some textured paint, being the browny colour of dirt, make sure it doesn’t contain any solvent that may desolve foam if your base is foam, you can also use latex paint- I hear many use it. In the end I probably spent max of $10-15.
Good Luck and Happy Modelling

I watch the miss-mixed shelves at Lowes and Home Depot. You can find a brown thats “close enough” for $5 or $6 a gallon. For my sky-blue backdrop I bought a cheap gallon of flat latex custom mixed at Wal-mart.
I bought my paint several years ago from WalMart. Was really cheap and its still good enough to use after some mixing.
I second what slammin posted. I was able to buy a gallon of mismatched light tan at an Ace Hardware store for about $5. This covered almost ALL of my 27x29’ layout.
Inexpensive paint works fine, it gets very little wear and tear. Since earth color varies with location and moisture, something close from the OOps shelf is even cheaper. Sky changes color frequently, close works here too.
Have fun,
Richard
