I am new at this, what’s the difference between a sprung and a rigid ground throw ( i know one is sprung and the other is rigid )? Which do most people use and why ? I also see that they list the travel distance. What is best here ? I am using altas code 100 # 6 and # 4 turnouts. What company makes the best ground throws and can you buy them with targets? Thanks
The sprung ground throws have springs built into the slide to prvent binding when the points close. They allow the mechanism to move full distance even if the points can’t move further.
I’m using sprung ground throws from Caboose Industries on my N scale turnouts on the visible part of my layout. They don’t have the targets, I assume you mean the indicators showing open or closed.
The ones I’m using have a slide switch incorporated to change the polarity of the frogs.
The dimension is the distance of travel for the mechanism. If you’re not sure what you need, get the sprung units with the most travel and you should be fine.
I hope this is helpful.
