Group wants historic designation for DC building Amtrak condemned

It would be nice to keep it but it’s not a significant piece of architecture worthy enough to hold up such a grand improvement to DC rail travel.

A careful read of the article states that Amtrak “has no plans to demolish (the building).” As there are not too many Burnham buildings left and this one has obvious architectural interest and detail, adaptive reuse is in order, such as another market type space in the whole scenario of the project.

Where was the DCPL, 60-years ago, when REA went out of the picture? What say, Jackie Kennedy Onasis? Oops! Too late to ask. Anyhoo, thanks for saving GCT!

Amtrak plans to demolish the north end of the platform so as to rebuild Sub 25A Union since DC turned down the plans to move it a 1/8 mile north. (with part of the design showing it hanging over the streets.) also the main renter of space is Amtrak. they dumped the building years ago because they didn’t want to spend the money to fix it up. Management lies and hides the facts.
