It’s 1:41am in Montgomery, Alabama. I just finished a work session on my layout. I’ve been building it as time has allowed for the past year and one month. Painted the walls sky blue in my train room over the garage… (no clouds yet …but in time) Bench work was completed… then laying track as the budget allowed. (3 kids in High School take some of the modeling money some months.)
The track plans for my fictional railroad run from Holley in the north to Montgomery, then down to Gulf Breeze on the coast. When all my structures are in place Soybean, Timber, and Sand & Gravel will move through Holley to Montgomery and the Ports at Gulf Breeze. Goods from the Gulf will move to Montgomery and beyond. I have an interchange as well where the Gulf Mobile & Ohio lease some track. Since the layout is set in the 60’s and 70’s you’ll see some L&N cars… I’ve even got Western Railway of Alabama cars. (I live about 5 minutes from the WR of A’s old shops.)
I designed the railroad as a point to point with hidden tracks to let trains also “Christmas Tree” the layout as well… with that said… while I was finishing all the track work I would ever so often do some switching on the layout … but tonight I finished all the track work and ran the 1st Train around the layout.
I let a SD40 GM&O take a string of cars around the layout. Nice feeling. I’ve got a lot of work still to do, but I really feel like I’ve hit a mile marker. It feels really good… but at this time of morning there’s not really anybody to tell, except maybe some of you guys. I’m sure yall know how I feel!
Whoo Hoo!!!
