I noticed that Mr. Beasley and several other of you guys are using Gypsonite for coverage on your layouts, do you use the plaster that I see at Home Depot that comes in 60# bags?
I responded on the Blue Foam thread. Yes it is a plaster Gypsolite is the brand. Structolite is another brand of plaster with the same application. Sold in large bags at the home improvement store.
I’m on my second container of Gypsolite. I think it’s from Scenic Express, and I got it at my LHS. It’s 8 or 10 pounds. I may need another container sometime over the next year, or I may not. That will about do it for my layout.
OK, it’s not the most economical way to buy it, but a 60-pound bag would be awkward, and would present storage problems since it needs to be kept dry. Besides, I’d rather support my LHS than Home Depot.
Thanks guys for the reply …of course it would help if I had the spelling of it correct…GypsoLITE, not GypsoNITE…tsk, tsk.
Mr B. : I didn’t know that WS carried it, I guess I never payed attention to it on the WS spin rack at my LHS. I agree with given the LHS our business, I buy 90% of my MRR stuff at my LHS.
Yeah, GypsoNITE is the glowing green stuff that Lex Luthor uses on his layout to keep Superman from messing with his scenery.
I wonder if Woodland Scenics meerly took the larger quantities in bags and packaged it into smaller units for sale to modelers?
For over twenty years my local hobby shop has been repackaging 100 lb bags of Hydrocal® into 10 lb bags; there is a 100% markup on the repackaged product but no one seems to be complaining about it, Who, I ask you, wants or needs 100 lbs of Hydrocal® sitting around absorbing all that moisture out of the air?
