H12-44 models

Hello. After reading the recent cover story on Chuck Hitchcock’s very cool Argentine switching layout…it brought back to mind Walthers H12-44 HO scale model… I had bought one a number of years ago, then used the chassis to build a narrow gauge O scale diesel…Now that I’ve seen the beautiful ATSF Fairbanks Morse switchers working on his layout I want to put a few to work on my Big Island Rail pike. Does anyone know if Walthers (or other companies) plans to re-release that loco? Or, has anyone had any luck finding them on e-bay and converting to DCC?

Thanks, jeepinjoseph

Jeep - They and the similar H10-44 do turn up from time to time on eBay. I purchased one from there about a year or so ago and have seen several since.

About a year ago, there was a rumor floating around that Walthers would release the SW1 and the H10/12-44, but I honestly doubt that it is going to be released any time soon.

If you’re up to a bit of glueing and painting, get a Cary Loco Works metal H10-44 shell, that fits on a Athearn SW7 chassis.
