Had anyone experienced with fiber optics.

Hi from Belgium,

The expand of my Maclau River need a lot of signals especialy cantilever and signal bridges because the line is a freelance Nscale Appalachian Railroad.

Probably photoetched one by www.blmamodels.com -quite expensive- or www.traincat2.com or plastic one by www.njinternational.com

In the past I have made some illumated signals with micro leds but it was tricky and difficult to do.

I never try it but I have seen some articles in the magazines whith working projects whith fiber optics.

Because of the tiny parts of Nscale signals, the fibers could be helpful.

Did you have some ressources or how to do it info’s or beter your own experiences?

use microfibers, route them like any wire, paint them black, heating the end with asoldering iron will spread the end into a bigger signal hole (if needed) and widen the visual area, don’t do that on the signal, it will melt the plastic signal (if plastic signal used)

have some standard size color LEDs under the layout, drill a short hole in the lense and plop the fiber right into it and glue it.

I did this with some RDC’s to have directional color marker lights (using red/green LED’s(and headlights)
