Haevyweight interior

Hi everybody

I recently purchased a MoPac Branchline heavyweight pass. car but I don’t know how to paint the interior and particularly the seats (I don’t like the "default " green plastic).

Any help is welcome!

Is it a Pullman car? If so the green may be the correct color. Pullman green is between pine green and khaki green in color.

No, it’s just a 80 feet haevyweight coach.

Anyway thank you for your help.

Light green was the most common color for the interiors of passenger cars (esp. heavyweights), cabooses, and locomotive cabs.

Passenger car seats were often green plush, but red wasn’t uncommon. As a modeller I like the seats to be a contrasting color from the rest of the interior.

You could search the web for an MP historical society website or something similar and ask there, I’m sure they’d know.

Interior colors in the heavyweight era were probably pretty tame by today’s standards. A lot of how the interior is painted will depend on you, but generally, a light green is pretty close to railroad practice. Seats were usually plush, and a darker shade of green would be pretty accurate. Brown and a deep red would also be possibilities. I’ve got a Branchline heavyweight, 14 section sleeper. Light green is the color for walls. Darker green for the “plush” seats, and a medium brown for the aisle. Looks good to me.
