Haley's New Caboose

Did anyone else notice the huge bulge in the rail nearest the cabose that the locomitve is about to hit? That seems pretty bad for main line rail.

Gabe

Can’t tell if that is exaggerated by joint deflection just before the bulge, although it seems like both rails experience about an inch or more of rise in about 20 feet. Also interesting that there are two joints at about the same place and it looks like the CWR welds are lining up on the ribbon ahead of the lead unit.

I dunno, but that doesn’t seem optimal. Maybe our feathered friend can set us tangent.

It is a nice shot, though.

Low spots at the joint bars…not high spots or bulges…bet thats yard tracks.
Staggered joints are best, but in a yard, not absolutly required.
And they only need to be staggered about a truck length apart, in yards.
You dont get the speed to make harmonic rocking much of a issue in yards, either.

Gee, I hope not. That could make your job more exciting than I bet you’d like it to be.[:D]

No, it’s not yard tracks. That’s a 40mph turnout. That’s where the CE&D Sub comes in from the north onto the Haley plant. I would guess that it’s just the slight elevation difference between the CE&D Main and the Haley plant itself. Also, they seem to have a helluva time keeping low spots out of that area. There always seems to be at least one low spot around Haley that’ll get the cars rocking.

Looks like yard tracks with all the weeds. Allso the units look to be passing through the diverging rout of a turnout.

The question would be what does it look like when there is no train on the tracks? That’d show you if there was a problem or not.

You would be suprised at the CSX mainline around here. Looks like they need a lawn mower. [(-D]

The same was true when I was in Folkston last month
