Have been some on ebay in my roadname recently. Hadn’t really felt the need to go brass at all, but there’s a paucity of quality passenger cars in my roadname (Frisco), i.e. IHC/Rivarossi or ConCor, so curious as to your thoughts re: quality, need for modifications, etc. As you might guess, they’ve been pretty pricey and there are bids on all the units offered so far, so doubt I’ll take the plunge, but didn’t find many specific comments when I searched the forum here.
The lightweight cars are OK, but definately nothing near the quality of a Challenger, Overland or Coach Yard car. They are on the lower end as far as brass passenger cars go. They are about the quality of SOHO and Lambert cars. They make a good start for a decent passenger car with some work. If the prototype is available that you are looking for, then what choice do you have?
I would definately avoid the heavyweight cars. I purchased a Santa Fe division superintendent’s business car, and got rid of it as soon as I could. The detail was awful, and the dimensions were off. It didn’t track well at all, and just poorly constructed overall (gaps at the joints).
