Hamlet, North Carolina

Great place to spend a few hours!

Birthplace of jazz great John Coltrane.

What railroad is the fourth engine from?

From the story: " The Hamlet Historic Depot & Museum, built in 1900, is the area’s best place to watch trains. … Restored to its original beauty in 2004, the depot is one of the most photographed train stations in the eastern United States."

The depot originally stood in the NW quadrant of the crossing of two SAL lines. In March 2003, the entire building was rotated 90 degrees and In April 2003, it was moved across the tracks to its present location.

I have been there twice, and could go back again!

have visited twice for total of 4 hours: nary a train or whistle. What is so “hot” about Hamlet?

I’m about an hour away from Hamlet and visit it often as well as spots to and from it. I’ve always have great luck there catching trains!

It’s unusual to spend more than an hour in Hamlet without seeing a train. The author forgot about the Florence sub, going southeast to Dillon, SC, and then on to the yard in Florence, SC
