Where, exactly, in western Mass are you? I may have access to some old maps which might help.
it ran through ludlow, chicopee, springfeild and palmer. i live in ludlow, and the mas pike (interstae 90) is for the most part my front yard. in ludlow the pike fallowed some of the olr rail bed, also in chicopee. the main reasn for my inquary is that i want to find a picture of the bridge that used to cross the chicopee river. all that is left are the adbutments and some piers.
thanks
matt
Go to Google and type [with “] " Hampden Railroad”. There are three pages of stuff, many of which should help. The Boston & Maine RR Historical Society is listed as printing an article on your HRR in their regular rag. They could also point you in the right direction to find the photos you seek. They might even have B&M engineering drawings of the bridge you are interested in. Good luck.
