Hampton Roads Transit marks 1 million rides on Tide light rail

Once again loclal commuter rail, whether it be light rail, heavy rail, or whatever, scores big with the actual users…yet naysayer politicians continue with the tired old arguement, “no body will ride it”.

The politicians who said “no body will ride it”, should be voted out of office. They lack the forsight in planning for the future and will continue to fight for $2.50 a gallon gasoline.

Too bad Virginia Beach didn’t go along with light raill when it was first proposed.

Someone PUH-LEEZE send some of the people responsible for the Tide’s success out to Austin, Texas. We need some positive thinking to get our transit boondoogle into the 21st century.

4,900 daily riders but by how much are the local, state and federal taxpayers subsidizing these 4,900 riders? It’s a success only if the farebox covers the costs.

Always a nay-sayer to drone about " fare box covering the costs" - When truckers cover the cost of their damage to my tax supported hightways or airlines "farebox covers the costs " of running and maintaining the airports , then I will listen to the don’t spend money on anything faction. Until then, some real thought should be given to infrastructure funding, not just some knee-jerk " I don’t want to pay for it " reactionary chorus. Most of these projects far exceed initial ridership expectations, showing that at least some people have enthusiasm for progress.
