Hand laid track

Many years (35 or so) ago I laid all my track by hand including making the switches. Now that I’ve decided to return to the hobby (just ordered Wicked Wanda’s) I’m looking for a source of ties or sugar pine to cut them from. I’d rather have the tie material already cut to dimension rather than cut it myself from a block of sugar pine. Any answers out there?

Micro Engineering carries a full line of precut ties. They are available from all the major online stores and lots of the Local Hobby stores.

Kappler http://www.kapplerusa.com/ makes them in several scales as well as other scale lumber.

The Micro Engineering ties already prestained worked fine for me, for my hand laid track. They also have longer sizes for building the tie pattern underneath turnouts.

Good luck and have fun.

I just chop my ties from 1/8" square bass wood.

These guys had lots of ties, etc. at the amherst show last weekend.
