All rail tools are NOT equal. Bought a set of “RAIL cutters” a copy of the design by Xuron. My wife bought me a SET of all the Xuron tools (thanks wife and Micro Mark). I played with some old brass track and the difference in the cut and effort required is night and day. You get waht you pay for. Anybody THINKING of cutting rails by hand, do not waste your money on copies.
i will still use the Dremel to cut gaps but cuting rails to length with little effort it is Xuron hand down.
Operational note that be sure you understand which way the cutter head is pointing. One way you have to file and clean the other is cut and go. Look at the tool the FLAT side faces the end you are using. The dressing of the cut is not that bad but with a little care you do not need the extra step.
My words of wisdom for today.

For gaps have you discovered the thin Gyros “saw blades” rather than using the thicker cut off disks? Dremel used to make them but stopped for some reason a few years back. The cut it makes is as thin as an Atlas track saw makes, and because the blade is bigger diameter, the gap ends up being more vertical.
Thank you, no i have noy, but will. I have a tube of the OLD dremel thin blades. I gues they broke to easy and somebody got hit with a piece. You know, coffe in lap syndrom.
Take Care

I got them at ACE hardware.
While we’re on the subject of hand tools. If you’ve noticed, the price of steel has gone sky high becaue of hign demand in China. With the supply of oil being disrupted this summer, anything that is made from oil (transportation costs, plastic, etc.) will be going up in price bigtime. Don’t put off getting those tools. I ordered some angle plates from Micro-Mark, using a catalog from earlier this year. The price had gone from $37 to over $52!! With the demand for steel and oil going up, big ticket items like tools (usually made from metal AND plastic) will only be more ridiculously priced. Oh great, and with all the construction in the gulf coast, I can only imagine what lumber will be like.
What I think is a fine supply source of modeling tools is: WIDGET SUPPLY, which can be found at… GOOGLE: WIDGET SUPPLY
or ‘COPY’ and ‘PASTE’ this address: http://www.widgetsupply.com/page/WS/CTGY/ht
At top of home page, ‘CLICK’ on: DREMEL INDEX tab… Then ‘CLICK’ on “STEEL SAW BLADES”
