I have, in rather poor condition, the ‘Dinkyville’ car that was produced later by EMCo and HICo with the same body, but a more conventional means of propulsion. I believe there were two styles of mechanism, but I’m not sure which ones were associated with which manufacturer. Both had 3-pole motors, but iirc one had a worm drive and one had a spur gear drive.

The early GMC ones required a push to start moving. The later Emco ones would start moving without a push. Unless your motor is burned out like mine. That’s why I put a Gilbert American Flyer handcar motor unit in mine and made into a swell S gauge trolley.
