Handlaying New Track...

ROARING

Not much context here, Brother Elias, just images of new track. Is the monastery getting it’s own private siding?

A picture is worth a thousand words.

This track is serving a new Haliburton Fracking Sand Terminal here in town. This is some pretty heavy track, as you can see. The main track is the BNSF mane lion (nee NP).

BNSF will of course install the switch etc et al to the main line, but the terminal tracks are being installed by a contractor. Unit trains of sand will be unloaded here, and about 200 trucks a day will transport the sand to the wells to be fracked.

I have not trespassed on the property to see what is happening there, but I will be able to watch the operations from my train room.

I just thought youse guys would like to see this construction.

To bad you didn’t get picture of the white glue being poured on the ballast?[:D]

That fracking sand makes its way all the way up here, plenty of HWCX covered hoppers around the Pittston area. You can see where they sat in the yard by the small bits of sand where it leaked out of the hopper doors.

From the second picture, it looks like they are making a wye so they can take trains either way onthe main.

It will be a loop. Two loops actually (as I understand it) Access is from the east end which is not surprising, although I think I should expect access at the west end too. Train will pull all of the way in so as not to foul the busy main line, then it will go around the loop again unoloading, and then the engine will let go of one end of the train, and grab hold of the other end of the train for its journey back east as unit empties.

I’ll be able to watch the action from my train room window.

Here are some pictures of the ballast being layed and glued on the seawall in Dawlish when the line was being rebuilt after being was washed away in the severe storms in early 2014.
