Hangin' Cabin Car Markers (Project Pic)

In another of my on going projects, I started hanging working markers on my cabin cars. I got one N5c underway, and realized I only had two 1.5mm LEDs. [banghead] Oh well more are on order. I modeled this N5c with permanently mounted markers on the underside of the roof.

This one is not quite done yet. I still need to paint the LED b

Looks really good. Are those surface mount LEDs?

I used 1.5 mm axial lead LEDs:

Here’s a shot of the underside, before I painted the leadsNote to self, solder leads before mounting the LEDs. I did put a small hole in the roof with a blob of molten solder:

And I used the good old Kadee centering spring trick for the power pickups. The wings on this one still need adjusting. :

Hi Nick: Those markers look Great! And thanks for posting those how to photos. Let us know how those spring pick-ups work.

Thanks guys.

So far the pickup work fine.

My next project will be markers like this:

I finished the markers on my Focal Orange N5c.

Since my LEDs haven’t arrived yet, the next project is adding Tomar markers to a Reading caboose. Stay tuned.

Here are two suggestions for truck pickups.

I don’t mind running on a railroad with unfinished scenery.

I don’t mind spotting cars on an industry track that has no industry beside it.

But what always gets me are the small details like this that absoultely blow you away when you notice them. [8D]

Lookin’ good!

Thanks guys.

I haven’t got them to light up yet, but I hung Tomar Adlake markers on one my Reading NE Cabooses:

I modified the stock Tomar markers, to look more like RDG markers, by cutting off the top and bottom finials and filing them smooth.

Nick

Since those PRR markers are well concealed under the roof, you could install them on each end, and use a TF4 decoder to reverse the direction… Just a thought…
