Hannibal and St Joe Railroad

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has photos or drawings of cars or engines that belonged to the Hannibal and St Joe Railroad?? First of all I don’t really know for sure if there was a railroad by that name and if that is the case then please let me know. Either way, I would like as much information about the Hannibal and St Joe railroad as I can get.

Thanks,
David Cook/railroadnut

The Hannibal & St. Joe operated between the two cities mentioned and became one of the foundations of the Chicago Burlington & Quincy (CB&Q). The one other interesting note on the Hannibal & St. Joseph is they built and operated the first Railway Post Office Car where mail could actually be sorted in route. Hope this helps

A good place to start would be “Burlington Route”, by Richard Overton. This is probably the definitive history of the CB&Q and includes a good general history of the Hannibal and St. Joseph and how it became part of the Burlington.

Also if you want to see an actual piece of rolling stock from that road. Check out teh Silver Creek and Stepehnson in Freeport Il. We have a caboose of theirs and it runs on every train still.
