Amtrak is 35 years old today. Nearly three and a half decades have passed since Amtrak took over most of the long distance passenger service in the United States. This company was not expected to make it through a year of operation when first created in 1971. How many more birthdays will Amtrak see on the rails in the future. I personally feel that Amtrak could potentially run for many years with its growing passenger numbers, yet could be gone tommarow without governmental support. Also, what train rolled into the station today on the eve of Amtrak for the last time today in 1971 do you miss or wish you have seen the most?
