Q beat me to it - I am usually first in, first out. But Happy Holidays from the Mookie and the Driver. We are going to do 3 days of train watching. At least a little each day. And take the needed amounts of naps! Ah - isn’t life sweet!

It’s Memorial Day. A day to remember all the servicemen (and women) who gave thier lives in service to our country.
…And that is an important day to remember ALL service personnel in our great country. To our Canadian friends this holiday used to be named “Decoration Day”…
Hello to all…we’re back from a safe round trip to Pennsylvania…Weather didn’t even cause too much trouble. Jen, I didn’t mean to take your thunder by being first…[kidding of course, but hope you enjoyed].
One thing I observed…[as we always do], is I hope the railroads soon develope a workable plan to load more truck trailers on flat cars to free up some safe space on the Turnpikes and interstates…My estimate of traffic on the Pennsylvania Turnpike is perhaps up to 70 % or more truck traffic…!! That is no fun to mix with.
Did see several trains crossing interstate bridges as we traveled but didn’t get much chance to stop at favorite spots to watch the rail action. Did stop in Ligonier,Pa…a beautiful resort town in the Alleghenies…and did some walking around to just look. Stopped at the former Ligonier Valley Railroad Depot and general offices building and once again just looked and remembered…It is now used by the area schools as office space. A beautiful building yet…white stone with arched windows and still has the train shed in back of it where the tracks were located. It is now used to park employee’s cars under…Ligonier is a beautiful town…Had lunch there. I used to watch trains there as a boy…almost sixty years ago…Doodlebug and all. LVRR connected to the main line of the Pennsylvania at Latrobe, Pa.
Hotel room in Somerset, Pa. faced the Turnpike and it is alarming the amount of trucks running that route…! By the way that Turnpike route was derived from the 1885 railroad route of the half completed grading for the South Penn RR…and then abandoned.
So there you have a bit of train data [trivia]…Enjoy.

Jen…Just read your report of your outings over the weekend which of course included lots of train watching. You had rather good traffic to observe.
Thanks for the fretting of one’s safety…Something works as we’re back safely after 1055 miles. We did have a good time just visiting around the area with friends and the sights are so nice this time of year with everything growing so pretty and green…and my eye to every railroad I come close to.
