Hard Knox Valley Railroad Construction

I have recently started construction of the Hard Knox Valley Railroad and thought I would share my progress with you. I have a thread about the layout on another forum but figured I would share with the folks here also. A little background - The HKVRR will be an HO fictional railroad located in Maine in the late 50’s/early 60’s. The railroad will be a hodgepodge of used C&NW and BAR motive power and rolling stock. DCC set up using a Digitrax Super Chief set. All comments will be welcome. Forgive me for the number of pics as I get you caught up to speed.

The first pictures will show the empty train room and then will proceed to my painting and benchwork construction. The framework is Sievers which I would recommend to anyone who is carpentry challenged like I am. The sub roadbed will be 3/8 inch plywood and 1 and 2 inch foam.

Here is Douglas cat trying out her x-ray vision -

The rest of the benchwork should be up this weekend so you can look forward to more pictures just not as many next time.

Well, I will applaud you on your progress.

Now one question.

What is that in the wall to right of window? A propane or gas heater?

What is that thing gonna do to the railroad above?

Nothing - I don’t use it.

Some new pics of the progress on the Hard Knox Valley Railroad. Benchwork is done, with some help from Maggie May. I did a little painting to see how it would look and to paint around the holes I cut out for the Digitrax UP5’s. The rest of the painting will wait until I get a door for the train room, this week along with some foam. We all know how cats like to jump and I really don’t need little brown paw prints throughout the house.

Haven’t posted anything here in forever so I thought I would give you a pictoral update on what’s been going on.

First some structures -

Next some pics of the railroad -

And finally some trees I’ve been working on. The hanging trees are supertrees which I have decided I love. The others are Woodland Scenics.

There you go.

Looking great Dave, you work quick. Keep the updates coming.

It’s been forever since I’ve posted anything so here are a bunch of pictures. I won’t give them all captions - too lazy for that.

Pretty much they show the progress on the Upper Valley and Birch Bend sections of the layout.

I like to keep on a regular schedule as far as giving updates on the HKVRR…you know, every couple of months or so.

Here are some looks at what’s been going on -

These are some pictures of a Swanson’s Lunch kit from Bar Mills -

Quite a crowd has gathered at the Trackside Tavern -
