Hard to find scratch building supplies.

I want to model a couple of Overton cars as private cars and I want to really detail the interiors. Where is the best source to find decorative details like finials, etc? I figure sources for doll houses would be good. Any suggestions?

I’m not sure if they get down to the level of finials, but they’re a good starting place.

What scale are you looking at?

Doll house stuff is usually 1/2" or 1", sometimes 1/4".

One minor subcategory of dollhouses is dollhouse-scale models of dollhouses. Since typical dollhouse scale is 1/12, a dollhouse-dollhouse would be 1/12 squared, or 1/144, which is less than 10% larger than N scale. When furnishings are made for a dollhouse-dollhouse (which they are, but are relatively uncommon), they might possibly be used for N interiors.

Model-making can always use some model-centric imagination. When I noticed that kindergartners were playing on the floor with blocks cut from 2x4 scraps to make a “train,” I realized that chunks of 2x4 had about the same bulk as O-gauge Lionel train cars. And scale lumber is available in several scales. That turned out to be the key to building an N scale model of a barn with an O gauge layout in the loft.
