I have installed a Hare decoder on a Tortoise machine and have been able to get it to operate by Pro Cab commands and a push button connected to contacts #11 & #12. However, I have not been able to get the AutoThrow function to work. I’ve double and triple checked all connections according to diagrams and instructions. My trigger rail sections are only about 1 1/4 " long. Could this be the problem? I assumed the AutoThrow feature is active by default when first installed as there is nothing in the instructions about activating this feature other than procedures for special controls by timing or Dispatcher.
I would suggest a phone call or e-mail to Tony’s Train Exchange, since the Hare is their product and they should be able to tell you what is being done wrong.
I suggest against using the auto-throw function. If it detects a short it will throw the switch. Unfortunately, it thinks that a spark is the same as a short. So, if you have dirty track or wheels and you spark the frog, it will flip the switch underneath your train.
