Harold K. Vollrath dies

Rest in peace Mr. Vollrath. I am forever grateful to the early photographers who shared their love of trains with the rest of us.

Rest in peace K. Booming with you on the inch 1/2 made railroading fun again. You and Scorcher made it to the top of the roster on the Big Rock Candy Mountain.

Dad printed many of Mr. Vollrath’s photos in our books. Glad to hear the family appreciates and intends to preserve the collection.

I got to know K through the purchase of photographs and a visit with him once when I was in the Kansas City area. He had the facilities to print larger negatives than I did and graciously helped me to get prints from some large negatives in my collection. Once, when I was going to travel on the Southern Belle from New Orleans to Kansas City, he arranged a cab ride for me from New Orleans to Texarkana.
