Once in a while I do some train repairs for someone and work on a trade. So I might have the chance to lay my hands on an RMT “Beep.” What I’m wondering is how easily (if at all) do the silver front, back and side handrails come off the Beep? Chances are if I get this, it’s not going to be a roadname I want, so I would obviously repaint it to of course, Norfolk Southern or Conrail (2 roads both ignored so far by RMT anyways). And I already have NS and CR decals on hand.
I don’t like the silver handrails anyways and would repaint them too. But I would need to get the handrails off to do the paint job. Just wondering if anyone has tackled this one? Thanks in advance.
I used a small straight blade screwdriver to pry them off (mine came off rather easily without scaring the plastic shell). The handrails on the RMT produced beeps are chrome, not silver, which will require a little more work in order to get the paint to stick.
Prior to RMT, Taylor Made Trucks had done the Conrail, not sure about the NS though. I was able to find, rather stumble upon, a Taylor Made Shell in the Santa Fe Freight colors during my York trip. Apparently Taylor Made produced shells for sale seperately as this was a prepackaged item that just contained the shell for 10 bucks. It too has chrome railing.
Brian, look at this photo. They do come in NS now.

Since you are good at painting and decaling, you might want to convert.
Dang! Chief where’d you get that Beep in NS??? Must be a limited edition, because I’ve never seen them on regular listings.
Man, this annoys me so much how the companies won’t put current Class A railroad roadnames on affordable traditionally sized 027 engines. I haven’t seen CPR, NS, CSX, BNSF, or CR on regular released Beeps, except for limited dealer runs like the BNSF.
Well, I’m still in no position to be buying trains but that hopefully soon change… I’m expecting it. It’s on going and I’ve been blessed thus far… so God willing, I hope for the best.
I’ve been offered potentially a Beep (or something else) on a trade, but I think the Beep is in PRR and that’s a roadname that I am totally completely sick of. It’s as if Nofolk Southern, Conrail, BNSF, CP Rail and CSX don’t exist or never existed because they are so overlooked on affordable end product.
