What the Santa Fe would be like today if it still was “alive”. I was thinking about this today. Think of those brand new Gevo’s in the classic warbonnet scheme. I can see now. If only it was real.
The people running Mike’s Train House and Lionel Trains have painted O Gauge and O Scale modern units that the ATSF might have aquired. There will probably be more Santa Fe “Warbonnets” on future O Gauge and O Scale locomotives that were built after the BNSF merger. You just have to ask for the model manufacturers to paint them.
What does it really cost to paint a real Locomotive these days?
Is it worth it to paint the Warbonnet one more time?
Andrew
A painted GEVO into a warbonnet scheme would, to me, look a lot alike a Santa Fe Dash-9. There really hasn’t been too much changed in outside appearences on a GEVO vs. a Dash-9 (except for the end of the long hood) to make much of a difference. It would be nice, however, to see one of them in new paint. Santa Fe had the best paint scheme, hands down.
Definitely, I’ve always liked the zebra stripes, even on the RSD15’s and SD24’s.
Lets takes tjos a little further and ask if the fallen flags from the 60s and 70 and 80s had survived what their paints look like Larry
OK cnwfan51, I’d love to see EL paint on one of Conrail’s SD80MACs!
Man, that would harken back to the brute elegance of those EL SDP45-2s
SD70M-2 in WC Paint!
An SD70ACE in the Warbonnett might look pretty cool.
As would an SD90 in CNW colors.
We know how the C&O would paint a wide-nose unit–we see 'em every day, lettered CSX. But what about Pere Marquette, or B&O pre-C&O influence?
I’ve brought up this site before–worth a look, while we’re dreaming:

And over on Trainorders.com, there was a thread with some imaginative drawings of NS “Heritage” units.
…Now that’s more than wild Carl.
Some of those designs would have been accepted on “tangent” RR’s only.
If the Canadian Pacific orders SD70ACe Locos will we see one each in the best Soo Line, Milwaukee Road, and Minneapolis, Northfield & Southern paint schemes?
It would be great.
