Has anyone put a Loksound Micro in a HO bachmann Shay?

Well this is the decoder Tonys train exchange gave me at Trainfest in Milwaukee Last Nov. I finally got to hooking up te wires to fit in an HO 8 pin plug. Well now after all that I cant install the Oval speaker and the decoder in the water tank tender what should I do? Has anyone done this any photos? I search and couldnt find any.

Back when the Bachmann HO scale Shay was first released, SoundTraxx came out with a loco-specific decoder that was plug-n-play. The speaker provided by them at the time was only a 3/4 inch round one, and even it barely fit.

I think your only hope is to go with a smaller speaker, but the sound quality and volume really suffers because of the small size. My Shays are barely audible even if no other sound locomotives are on the layout.

Bachmann is coming out this year with a DCC/Sound shay for $400. For more info check Walthers’ site.

I have installed many a sound decoder into the Bachmann 3 truck Shay…never an issue.

Thanks everyone for the information. David what size speaker did you use? the one Locksound provided was way to big. And at 400.00 I would rather buy a 12 dollar speaker. The decoder fits its just the speaker I’m having issues with.

400 dollars?

Make sure that whatever speaker you go with, make sure it is 100ohms.

David actually I was referring to Bachmanns shay with sound thats TBA. I meant I would rather buy the 8ohm speaker at 12.00 but I dont know which one.

Loksound decoder + 8 ohm speaker= Dead Loksound decoder + 8 ohm speaker.

I meant 100 ohm
