has anyone sent trains back to M.T.H.

Has anyone sent trains to M.T.H, to be fixed under warranty? and out of warranty was it worth it?

If your product is within warranty, if you don’t send it to them, it will void the warranty. Out of warranty, your call, but figure up to $20 each way for shipping.

I had an HO Scale UP Heritage/MKT SD70ACe with a defective motor, that produced enough heat to also warp the body. I sent it to them (I believe at my cost–but it was cheap enough) and though I had to wait for a new body to get made (only because they were completely sold out of that paint scheme), I received a basically brand new engine with a new motor and a new MKT body from them.

The other 4 SD70ACe’s I owned were all just fine, and I have no complaints about the MTH service I received. (I did subsequently switch to modeling earlier era diesels but that has nothing to do with the quality of MTH’s product.)

I do not recall if they shipped the repaired engine back to me on their nickel, but I think they may have–it was over a year ago, closer to two, so I don’t recall exactly.

Their service people were courteous and helpful–again I have no complaints.

Prior to that I owned (all HO scale) two UP 4-12-2’s, one Rio Grande L-97 4-6-6-4, one WP 4-8-4 and one SP 4-8-4. None of them had any problems at all–my son just wanted diesels, and I was trying to keep him interested in trains.

(Now we have all 1970’s-80’s era stuff–Tunnel Motors, etc.).
