In church today, someone asked me about a nail she had. From her description, it was similar to a tie-dating nail, but instead of a number, it just had “IC” on it. Her forebear (I can’t remember the relationship) had worked for the Illinois Central, “supervising at wrecks.” So would a nail like this have been used to distinguish a border between ownership of tracks?
