Has anybody ever used a DROP OUT Turntable opening for a hatch? The Walthers 130ft TT is big enough for an access hatch when dropped down. DUM or POSSIBLE?

I would never attempt doing so, a turntable is usually a focal point of a yard that should be highly detailed. Ballast and scenery repairs would be nec. every time it is removed, not to mention the track alignment and electrical problems that could be created. Damage to the turntable/ bridge is sure to happen at some point.

On the back of what Bob says a $300 drop out hatch seems a bit extreme. I think its possible and I certainly am not gonna call you dumb, but I would say its inadvisable. Is there any where else close by, what do you need access to?

I wouldn’t. As others say, they are tricky enough to get right. Once you have it installed and nicely detailed and scenicked, you are asking for a world of frustration and endless tweaking to get it back to what you had before, if you should ever decide to let it swing down for access.
IF I were to do this, I would have a cut-out somewhat wider than the table, itself, and have the table kit and its senic details well fastened. The hinging would have to be both robust and highly functional in order to get the whole module back up and flush and aligned with the approaching track(s). Also, I would have it swing up, not down. Down, around flailing ankles or knees, would be an invitation for buying another table at some point.
