Haunted Houses

With Halloween just around the corner, I thought this would be the perfect topic. I bought a Model Power “Victorian House” kit. When I put it together, it reminded of an old house in my home town that we kids all thought was haunted. I’ve actually toyed with making it into a real haunted house. I also know Model Power makes a haunted house kit.

Do any of you have a haunted house on your layout? I thought it would be fun to share pictures of them.

GP-9_Man,

I don’t have any house’s,on my layout for that matter, but I must say, that I really like that one…I especially, like the Tower…I would not want to have to clean that house though…[swg]

Hi GP-9_man11786

Que manic laughter and Organ music.

A friend of mine and I talked about it but that’s as far as it got.

Using the very “N” kit you have put up a picture of we where going to use a green light and resistor to try and get a glow effect rather than bright internal light

We could not come up with what we thought was a good way of getting the Ghost in the window.

We also planned to put some lop sided tomb stones in the large back yard for a very overgrown private family burial site.

But not being able to come up with an idea for the Ghosts stoped us doing the haunted house.

regards John

That turret looks like a good place for an “N” scale layout. Nice view out all those windows while workin on the layout. On another note, you would need a tall, tall ladder to clean the leaves out of the gutters.[:O]

You could have a ghostly figure that appears and disappears at that railing on the roof. Just have a little hatch for him to pop up and down out of.

Just an idea that came to me,when having diner,How about a small string of xmas lites,in different colors, the kind that you can adjust the flash rate? Then you can have frosted acetate, ghosts and such, with one of the xmas lites, that will be on behind the image,in front of some of the windows? Just a Thought!

this is my haunted mansion, the Psycho Mansion, before it was installed on the layout. The second photo is on layout in position, waiting for surrounding scenery to appear!

I suppose my question is what constitutes a haunted house? [*-)]

Should it be a older home like pictured above,a normal house,a apartment or depot?

I would opt for a haunted depot.[Y]

A ghost train [:|]! I’ve wondered what it would be like to take a locomotive and some rolling stock (freight or passenger…era of your choice) paint it with some glow in the dark type paint and run it around the layout with the lights off. Kind of like those ghost trains seen on Scooby-Do type cartoons. I suppose black light might work as well.

Happy modeling!

Don.

A ghostly Lincoln funeral train perhaps?

Pretty sure in the dim, dark days of Tyco they had a glow in the dark train set.

Yup, though the train itself didn’t glow: http://tycotrain.tripod.com/tycotrains/id92.html

There were also Nite-Glow bridges and even a Nite Glow version of the operating crossing gate (the one with the long flat piece of plastic down the middle that was depressed by the train rolling over it to lower the gate). And Nite Glow slot cars where the cars and the guardrails glowed.

A Lincoln ghost train would also be in keeping with prototype if one believes the legend of the train being seen at times since the funeral of President Lincoln.

…[:-^]…o.k. I admit being prototypical is debatable…or is it…[swg]?

Happy modeling!
