Thanks Todd.
That BN&SF paint scheme looks a lot like it came from G&W. I had not noticed that before.

What railroad is this, and is that a former railroad station.

Very good. This pics take me back to my one day of railfanning Kansas City some years ago (I shot some of the same locations as you). That is a great city for railfan photography and train watching. I only regret that I did not feel completely safe in one neighborhood where there were some interesting photo locations. Nothing happened but being a stranger with an expensive camera and a rented car I felt just a bit uneasy but overall KC and surrounding areas is first rate.
Actually I do have one other regret – this was purely a daytime visit so I did not have a chance to eat any of that famous Kansas City beef or ribs.

Nice work Todd.

that would be the Tazwell & Peoria RR(tazwell and peoria counties). that blue and white scheme is the ex- Peoria & Pekin Union RR. was actually bought by the G&W (along with the ex- Chicago & Illinios Midland - now the Illinios & Midland) one year ago this month. all of the I&M equipment has been repainted in the orange and yellow, but all the P&PU stuff is still in the blue and white. they have 3 rebuilt sw1200s (two are ex-UP with the electric radiators) 2 home-built switchers powered by CAT engines, that look alot like old Baldwin switchers, and 2 rebuilt GPs (GP35 and GP38) both with CAT engines. all the rebuilds and the home builds were done by Peoria Locomotive Works, which is now defunct.
missed the second part of the question the first time. no, the builind its infront of is not a station, its only a few years old. the other dark brown building on the far right, on the same side of the tracks, is the River Station, formerly a restuant, now home to two bars. Its on the site of the original Peoria Union Station, where numerous pass. trains, including the rockets, stopped long ago. IIRC it had burned down. There is a “newer” RI station on the same line, alittle further north(about a mile behind where the picture was taken.)
A company, dont remember who, just built a brand new building on the other side of the bridge in the background, that in supposed to be a smaller replica of the original Union Station.

Thanks enjoy seeing what Peoria IL looks like also. [:p][:)]

Feel free to add some IAIS photos. They have a great paint scheme.

If you have any photos of the bridges over the Mississippi, I would like to add them to my Trackside Guide.

i havent gotten to shoot any Iowa stuff in a long time, see them from time to time, but never with my camera with me, but soon as i do get some, i will post them.

now i really dont have a clue on any over the Miss. never railfan over there…

i do have a couple of 2 over the Kaw, and Missouri, in KC. the one over the Kaw River, at Santa Fe Jct, is a hydraulic(sp), bi-level, vertical lift bridge, has only been lifted once, for the flood of '94, and it has been around since the steam era.

been up all morning resizing and uploading, more pics in “kansas City” folder

I like the TP unit… What’s up with the front of that BNSF unit?

it has been damaged, fixed, and just primered. i found 2 more pics of that engine with the same primered nose on railpictures from over a year or 2 ago, still hasnt been painted right.

Soo…very nice work. Really enjoyed your efforts to avoid the grade-crossing wedgie roster shot. There’s some really creative work that utilizes foreground and background to make a much more interesting picture. Well done!

thanx chis, i appreciate that.

i already have an editor’s pick on that site! [:D]

OK, now I’m jealous… [|(]

j/k, good shots, you deserve it.

Your TP 702 is former UP SW10 1271, which UP had rebuilt from WP SW9 602 on 11/30/84.

We had UP SW10 #1264 here at the PTRA for a while, rode like crap, but pulled like a monster…as long as you could keep it on the track, that little beast would try to pull just about anything you coupled up too!

Still see a lot of the SW10s from the UP rebuild program around here, working industries and a few grain elevators.

Ed

thanks for the correction, ed. i couldnt remember what they were, other than ex- UP. i just kinda guessed at it, “yeah, its a '1200”

its really great to get all the complements guys! i always nick-pick the hell out of my own pictures, thinking they arent as great as they could (or should in my eye) have been. i could have moved over alittle more, let it get alittle closer, all that stuff. im basically self taught, my dad had alot of influnce, and help on getting a better shot when i was young, and had a class in highschool that TOUCHED on photography, for about 3 weeks. but no formal training.

i still have some from Galesburg that i havent posted yet, ill work on them. and its been killing me to go get some more, since i just bought my new lens, the only time ive used it yet, is to get some drag racing pictures.

ya know, i probably shouldnt ask this, might kinda sound alitte concited, but im curious.

whats everyones favorites that i have up so far?

I like the shot of the two ES44ACs- incidentally, an editing suggestion for you, you can list multiple locos in the loco roster for the picture- helps with others looking up pictures of a given loco. Otherwise, someone trying to find a shot of BNSF 5771 wouldn’t be able to find yours.

Question: what model camera do you use?
