Have Model Master Clear Laquers Been Discontinued Now Too ?

Switched over to Model Masters clear finishes, especially the flat finish back when there was so much trouble with the Testors Dullcoat. Now I see Walthers lists them as not in stock and will not be getting any more. (?) My local hobby shop checked two other suppliers and got the same results.

Looks almost like Testors is abandoning solvent based paints altogether ! Better stock up …

Mark,

Solvent based paints are getting scarce on the model building world. IIRC, MM has acrylic version of the paint…

Well, you can always splurge and get the automotive paints. Napa used to supply the bodyshop I worked in, but that was 30yrs ago. They had a paint chip book that had thousands of colors in it, but I don’t recall any cars being painted “boxcar red”. Perhaps they have the ability to color match like the box-stores do. It would be a whole lot more economical than the 1oz bottles, but how many boxcars can you paint with a quart?

They don’t like to ship out of the country due to varius reasons.

Hey guys,

Not trying to be a pitchman, but Alclad2 has both, solvent based clears (from high gloss to flat) and a high gloss water based clear available that are of good quality and flow out very well. Imho, you get more bang for the buck with the larger bottles:

As I’ve stated on some of my Alclad related threads, these clears work well over other model paint brands, including Scale Coat 1 & 2, Testors MM, and Floquil. The waterbased Aqua Klear works nicely over Tamiya and Pollyscale and is excellent for sealing decals. I retired my Future Floor bottle after using the Aqua Klear.
