i never have, ive only seen the black freight challengers, maybe thses were used for passenger service?

Unless I miss my guess, that’s what UP referred to as the “Greyhound” paint scheme. And yes, it was intended for passenger service.

Yes, that paint is accurate for UP’s passenger locomotive.
That’s what my Lionel looks like, 4664challenger. Minus the “armor yellow” stripes. When the Challengers were first put into passenger service with the newer Pullman coaches, the CEO of UP ordered the Challengers to have the yellow striping to match beginning between Christmas and New Year of '46… He changed his mind a couple of years later, and they reverted to the two-tone gray, like mine.
To the best I can pin down There were 8 Challengers painted grayhound. 3973-3980. This is the paint scheme I find most sex on anything. And the UP Challenger is the most sexy locomotive ever made. To bad the current political stance of the Union Pacific railway is such I can no longer publicly support them.
