Have you been described as Obsessive Compulsive?

My wife looked at me the other day and said she was glad I was into model railroading as it takes some of that obsessive compulsive energy I have into something productive and relaxing.

Now I never regarded myself as obsessive compulsive, just very “task oriented.” [:D]

So has any one accused you of being obsessive compulsive?

I’m also a war-gamer, in particular, Advanced Squad Leader and Starfleet Battles.

We play these board games, with tiny little cardboard counters spread throughout multiple boxes (frequently Plano, like we MR people might use to hold detail-pieces).

Some of us also paint miniatures, which absolutely must be exact in detail (“Oh, I see you painted the cuffs on your 15mm minis the wrong hue of blue, they didn’t change to that fabric for another 3 months”).

Gee, the two hobbies have absolutely nothing in common. [:P]

I was diagnosed with OCD 30 years ago and have had no real problem with it.

OCD? Nope… but my wife DOES refer to me as “oldest child”.

And yeah, I also play wargames and they’ve got as many detail geeks as railroading. It’s the same personalities, just different mediums.

I KNOW a few of the OCD types, however, or maybe just train nerds. I dunno. I just hated it when I was younger (before I got hitched to “she who must be obeyed”) and there I’d be, chatting up some nice young lady in the local pub, and someone from the club would see me. Nothing like having them just HAVE to tell you about that new Berkshire some fellow just bought and all the problems with derailments he’s having.

Nice way to derail a conversation with a female there,… buddy. She’d get that LOOK. You know, the one that says… hey pal, you know this guy? And just what is he babbling on about?

sigh…

Not since noon!!! My snuggle is currently watching John Wayne’s Red River on EWSTN on the Sat in the other room and I’m sure she will before we go to bed tonight.
