Amazing number of structures and tracks. Someone has put a whole lot of work into it. The only thing that bothers me is the ‘cliffs’ between the upper and lower tracks. They are simply not realistic, but hey - it’s a model railroad and the owner can do whatever he wants!

Dave

That is just awsome. All the detailing is on spot. Thanks for posting it !

I can’t see the video, “this video has content from SME. It’s not available in your country. Sorry.”

Wolfgang

I agree it’s quite an accomplishment. The oil refinery alone blows me away. Still I’m surprised to see that he’s adopted an American prototype theme. And the Union Pacific, of all roads. Where’s the FNdM in all of this? Is there anyone out there who actually models the Mexican railway system?

While it was obviously very large it lacked a certain realism for me, parts of it were almost toy-like in appearance. I’ve seen photos in our WPF where I’ve had to do a double take to see if was 1:1 or a scale model, but not here.

I like it - Broad curves and high numbered turnouts. Seems like a good track plan and it may be a “case in point” for the Philosophy Friday thread on weathering.

It’s Good that it liked it you

The layout is fantastic. It looks like it might be of a model railroad club? [tup]
Good job.

My first impression was “now we know who’s keeping Walthers in business!”

The guy obviously likes building structures, and it looks like he does a great job with them. The whole layout has a little Lionel/tinplate vibe to me, but it looks like it’s well thought out for what it is.

Not what I would build, but still a real accomplishment.

Was able to do a google translation, and came up with this info:

“Super model in Merida, Yucatan. all a visual delight for all model railroads, developed by brothers Hugh and Ernesto C Ramos.”

Me pregunto si esto no fuera de Mexico si se tienen Los mismos sentimientos.

Gracias?

My comment was not meant as a criticism as this layout is very well done and I’d love to see it in operation. I just have other personal preferences but always love seeing what others have done, and it is recognized that this layout took a great deal of effort and research and the builder (s) should be complimented for a job well done.

While certainly of considerable physical dimensions and undoubtedly representing a huge financial investment, the layout’s main attributes are the great number of commercial structures presented. As is often the case with very large layouts, the scenicking appears as almost an afterthought. In many respects, it harkens back to the sort of large layouts common in the 1960’s, where scenery was more representational than truly realistic in appearance. Just compare this layout to Dick Elwell’s Hoosac Valley Lines and you’ll see what I mean. I’m not being intentionally critical of the efforts of this layout’s builders, it’s is nicely done for what it is. I’m only pointing out what constitutes first class modeling today in the minds of most model railroaders.

Nice Layout. Shame they used the standard code 100 atlas switch machines on it. I don’t like the looks of those things.

Wow! this video was controversial [:|]

I really don’t think the video is controversial at all. This is a very large layout that required a great deal of effort to construct, it has a very distinctive style and modelers are just expressing their opinion. I appreciated having the opportunity of viewing this layout to see what others are doing.

I liked it, and I would love to do some switching in all of those industries. I tool thought that the Shell facility was the best. The cement plant come in second place.

I did some NdeM engines at the engine terminal by the round house. They were mixed in with the UP units.

Wolfgang,

apparently Sony Music Entertainment has banned youtube videos being viewed in Germany. To my knowledge, their have been a number of right infringements - illegal use of copyrighted materials.

Fantastic !!! I’m not a nit picker when it comes to other peoples projects. however i am when it comes to myself. All i can say is WOWWWWW ! Nicely done …
