And what about Mike Haverty’s deal with the late Johnny Hunt. If my casual sightings of intermodal movements is a any guide, it would not surprise me to learn that J B Hunt is the largest user of intermodal services in the country. I think we have Mike to thank for this in that he is the one who gave Jonny a train ride in his private car while tacked to the rear of a Santa Fe “shooter”.

“Mellen”? No, no… Dodge, you dolts.

Does anyone know the location of the National Railroad Hall of Fame in Galesburg, Il? No? Well, it’s no wonder, because there is no National R.R. Hall of Fame in Galesburg. It is a hope and dream of some city officials and other well intentioned individuals but as far as any sort of bricks and morter building it sadly doesn’t exist. There is a very nice Galesburg Railroad Museum right next to the Amtrak station, which has a C.B.&Q. steam engine, an R.E.A.-R.P.O. car, a Pullman coach and many other static displays staffed by friendly volunteers who are mostly retired railroaders.
