When I click on “start conversation” the window comes up but the name of the recipient has a red X in front of it. When I click send, the recipient box goes blank and my message stays up. If I try to type in the person’s user name it says that person doesn’t exist. I’ve sent PMs before with no problems. I wonder if the red X means that person doesn’t want to receive any messages, although he hasn’t indicated that to me. What am I doing wrong?
Bob,
Did you check your Conversations page to see if your PM actually posted? I’ve had that happen to me.
Tom
Yes, and it did not post.
A forum member can block incoming conversations by editing his Public Profile.
If you click on the Edit link next to Public Profile, one of the available options is Conversations Configuration. Under that option are three alternatives to Allow Conversations From: None, Friends Only, or Everyone.
So, apparently, the forum member that you want to start a Conversation with has either blocked you (LOL) or he has blocked all incoming conversations.
Rich
That’s what I suspected. Thanks.
Surprisingly, no one to whom I’ve sent a PM has blocked me. [:-^] However, I have a couple of messages languishing in my outbox and I’d guess that the intended recipients neglected to click the option to be notified of such messages.

It’s your breath, Wayne. But don’t take it personally. [swg]

I’ve been told that I have a certain “air” about me. [(-D][(-D][(-D]

Not brushing your teeth is a cheap way of keeping people you really don’t like from bothering you. (It’s like loaning someone you can’t stand 10 bucks. They’ll avoid you like the plague.)

Wayne, I wouldn’t have too good a feeling about this quite yet if I were you.
At the present time, the only options are to block all conversations, block no conversations, or allow conversations with Friends only.
I have to believe that if forum members could block specific individual members from starting Conversations, you would be on everyone’s short list. [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D] [(-D]

Yeah, that’s why I opted out of that “Friends” gimmick - gives anybody a chance to block me and, hopefully, blocks them from me, too. [(-D][(-D][(-D]
Surprisingly, despite my usual loquaciousness, the only conversations which I initiate are to thank others for some nicety or to make them aware of a potentially embarrassing faux pas which they’ve made in a recent post.
I still prefer the term PM, though - it just sounds wrong to ask someone to “Conversation” me. [swg]
