What, erudite locals, and other citizens of the nation and world. is, if it’s possible to compose, is a phonics, phonetic, representation of the both native, and strictly French, and the rest of us (in the sense of Paul Harvey): U.S.? the pronunciation of Havre de Grace?
Local, U.S., and proper (textbook French)?
50 years ago in TRAINS, I read the name and wondered about this, pronunciation thing.
It’s not on my “bucket list.”

Mr. Carlin, Always love reading your posts as an old railroader. I learn something new every time you post. Now time to, hopefully return the favor. Having lived in Baltimore some 30 years ago, the local pronunciation is, with long A, “Aver de grace.” French is, again with long As and said as one word, “aahvduhgrah”. How the average Bostonian would say it I haven’t a clue, but most assuredly it would be butchered; or should I say “butchaahd.”
I wonder if CSX is curious about all of this as their bridge could use replacing as well. It’s over 100 years old also.

Here in Maryland people commonly say what sounds like “havuh-dee-grace”.
