I was able to ride the Lk&P many times from 1974 and almost every year when our family vacationed in the Islands. Up till 2000. When my Dad could no longer travel. The LK& P I will miss very much! Loved that train!
I’m glad I got to ride it once several years ago…
I have had the opportunity to ride the train many times during several trips to Maui. I took a great picture of the train as it went by the Lahaina post office. I used the picture in a presentation I made later that year on railroad history. Certainly very glad I did that. I was planning on a ride this August during an upcoming trip but…another train ride into the history books. Great memories! Thank you L,K&P!

A couple of other “railroads” exist on Oahu. One is the Dole plantation ride ( I realize this is more like an amusement park ride, and I would not count it as a railroad if it were in, say, Missouri; beggars cannot be choosers!) The other ride is the monorail in that shopping mall in Pearl City, offering an excellent view out over Pearl Harbor in the short ride. Why is this so unremarked?

My wife and I rode the train on each of our four visits to Maui. The sugar cane train will be missed!
