Two Arrested for Shooting Train in Clay County
DECEMBER 21, 2004 - Posted at 12:33 p.m. CST
PIGGOTT, AR - They may not exactly be the terrible James-Younger gang of old west lore, but two Clay County individuals have been arrested after allegedly shooting up a freight train as it passed through the Knobel area Monday afternoon.
According to a police report, “The Clay County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call from the conductor on a Union Pacific train, advising that the train had been shot as it traveled through Knobel. They also advised they saw two individuals dressed in camouflage clothing.” The train was shot just below the engineer’s window with a .22-caliber rifle, but no one was injured as a result of the incident.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested 18-year-old Jimmy Sweaney, Jr. and a juvenile, whose name cannot be released.
The incident is still being investigated by both the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, as well as Union Pacific Police.
what an engineers life is actuly worth in the eyes of the law…
some years ago…long befor i hired out…i was told a story simmiler story to the one mentioned above…here is the story i was told
it was durning hunting season…and a 16 year old kid was out hunting for deer… he wasnt haveing much luck with the deer…but where his hunting spot was…wasnt to far from the B&O main line to pittsburgh…to break up the bordom of not seeing any deer…he desided to try and shoot the headlight out of a passing train… he took aim…and fired…
in the cab the engineer was talking to the crew…and in a moment…said…“oh my god…ive been shot”…and slumped over dead in the seat… they did find the person that did it…and all he got was 2 years probation…and his hunting licenece was revoked for the rest of his life…
that is what an engineers life was worth…2 years porbation and not alowed to hunt deer anymore…something to think about

I recall years ago a lady driver got shot dead while leading three company trucks thru Baltimore. They did find the killers after two weeks. In the mean time the C.B. Radio crackled across the nation.
